The Prescott Regional Opportunity Foundation (PROF) was formed in 2020 as a 501(c)(3) corporation to educate, innovate, incubate citizens, companies and entrepreneurs.  After gaining financial, legal and grant support the Center for the Future project now has four companies with space in the Phase I building site in historic downtown Prescott.  Beginning July 2022, workshops, meetups, training and other events will be held in conjunction with USDA Rural Innovation funding.  

Partner companies include SteadyNet (formerly SimpleWAN) developing products for the consumer and small business network space offering reliable, and bandwidth controlled secure connectivity. CyberCore International has expanded from the San Jose and Bay Area Physical and Cyber Security offerings to include a SOC housed in the refurbished second floor of the Center Phase I building.  Systems Engineering Group, an Axient Subsidiary attracts aerospace engineering students to work on complex fluid models for hypersonic objects.

The remarkable discovery of two black holes spiraling together in distant space aver two years ago (as measured from earth) demonstrated the power of mathematics to describe a dance that occurred a billion yeaars ago.  Now we can peer into parts of the universe beyond sight or normal radiation.  Researchers at Embry-Riddle in Prescott Arizona are part of that team and will carry on to determine if we can now "see" waves from supernovae.  It is exciting to think that another world beyond the chaotic storm of day to day living is available for us to discover.

If we can move beyond the petty differences between skin color, language, religious beliefs ... we could start to consider the important things.  Important ideas like getting clean water for everyone to drink.  Transporting food to the places where people need it.  Developing new forms of energy from sources like water, wind, and waves.  We have the technology, the knowledege.  What we lack is the moral leadership to help break down the barriers of greed, distrust and power that separates people from people.  At the end of the day, we want to be able to live, to have families, to find dignity in our lives.

Einstein, the predictor of thiese remarkable waves, spoke of a world that had no borders.  He was able to see in his mind what we have come to see from spacecraft.  That the earth is a tiny place in the midst of space.  We should treat it like the spaceship that is.  Green and lush with water able to sustain us all.

Stephen Hawking has persevered for years with ALS, adapting to his increasingly limited communication through the use of assistive technology.  Now the gaze of his eyes allow him to choose characters, words, phrases which are turned into speech.  His name and reputation allow his "voice" to be heard all around the globe.

In a powerful video message sent to another world leading author Paulo Coelho (author of The Alchemist) Hawking tells of an upcoming meeting where a grand mission is being launched.  This is a vision of a world without extreme poverty, a world that is increasingly connected and educated.  This is a world that is sustainable for generations to come.  And it is an idea that is very timely when it seems that many forces are trying to divide people along lines of religion, along lines of political thinking and along lines of geographical power struggle.  By seeing people as "other" it is all too easy to marginalize them, think they must be destroyed or ignored.  This message is a message of hope and you can find it on Coelho's public site in the form of a video: https://www.facebook.com/paulocoelho/videos/10153597760671211/. 

On September 25th 2015, 193 world leaders will commit to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality & injustice. Fix climate change. Infinity ... It is a challenging concept to understand even for mathematicians.  We use models to help us. The simplest being the counting numbers.  1, 2, 3 and then just keep going.  It never stops and that is the smallest example of infinite.  Still it is not graspable since we think of things like the universe as big and yet the number of all the atoms and particles are estimated to be just a finite but large number like 10^86.  Still a long way from infinite.  The 19th century mathematician Georg Cantor explored the nature of infinity, showing that some infinities are larger than others.  Again a boggling notion to most that struggle to conceive of even the smallest of them!

We are challenged with language that suggests that something can be infinite, and beyond the physical knowing of a finite (human) mind. Philosophers, spiritual mystics and mathematicians explore this realm with different degrees of success.

Today August 8, 2015 is considered auspicious as it numerologically is an 8 8 8 day.  The 8th day of the 8th month and the digits of 2015 add to the number 8. Why 8? The symbol for infinity sometimes called the lemniscate looks like an 8 on its side.  There is much to explore in this universe even with its puny finite set of particles, its dark matter and apparently growing dark energy.  But all of this pales compared to even the smallest of infinities.  And after all a googol is 10^100 a modest sized number with a name that exceeds the expected “size” of the universe, but it is truly small next to a googolplex defined to be the finite but quite a bit larger that is represented by 10^googol.  That is a 1 followed by 10^100 zeroes.

This always helps me to realize that the set of all things we don’t know will always massively exceed all that is known by all of the peoples ever living on this planet.  Small wonder that Spirit or God or any other mystical name for the unknowable is always beyond words, symbols, It is the More.  Larger than all of the infinities!

It began as an idea, gather extraordinary stories from around the country to inspire and lead people in finding the best of themselves.  Now it has grown into a movement with multiple volumes and gathering power as events, workshops and talks are being offered to bring The Change alive in the everyday affairs of thousands and soon tens of thousands of lives.

For 10 years now the US has attempted to raise awareness of the general public about the importance of each person’s involvement in creating a safe internet environment.  Yet in a recent poll at a technical university among prospective students applying for college less than 10% had even heard of this awareness campaign!  For many the news of Target, JP Morgan and others produces some momentary concern that quickly passes with “this won’t happen to me, I have nothing of value or importance”.  This is part of the change in thinking that is required to move from unaware and unwary to having a proactive stance when using smartphone, laptop, or desktop to access email, social media or websites.

Start with learning about your own “cyber hygiene”.  Just as we have learned to wash our hands during flu season and brush teeth to reduce disease, some small actions can greatly improve your chance to enjoy the benefits of the world wide network without the “viruses” or malware. 

1)      Create passwords for all of your devices.  More than 1/3 of US devices attached to the net are open with no password leaving them easy target for someone to control remotely by installing unwanted software on those devices.

2)      Choose different passwords for your different devices and services that are not among the simple ones like password, 123456 or iloveyou that can be easily guessed by adversaries.

3)      Keep your systems updated to enjoy the protection of recent fixes by the vendors such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, Adobe and others.

4)      Ask for help from someone that is knowledgeable if you are uncertain, or give assistance to your aging friends and relatives.

Changes of the moon remind me of the motion of days and weeks as the earth and companion sashay around the sun.  This next morning will witness the earth shading the bright solar glare softening the color of Luna.  Yet the moon is unchanged as it moves through the  darkness of space.  It is only my own perspective that daily and moment to moment shifts.  This lunar wisdom is grounding and awakening at the same time.  How many generations have looked to the heavens in wonder and awe as the shadow passes slowly across the face of the moon?  I can connect across time and space with this thought and with the stately power of this Full Hunters Moon.

I am so grateful for the dedication of Fred Espanek of NASA and MrEclipse.com for bringing his passion for the eclipse to the web.  It reminds me how amazing that our ancestors without computers, cameras and clocks calculated celestial calendars with such amazing precision.  No doubt entranced by the same changing moon.
